About the Volunteer Program
Our volunteer program offers a unique opportunity to contribute to various impactful initiatives, from community engagement, business development to organic farming and supporting local animal rescue shelters. Whether you're a traveler seeking purpose or a local looking to make a difference, our program will help you meet the right community.
The program operates through Volunteer Yatra, a membership-based volunteer community that connects travelers with meaningful opportunities hosted by spaces like House of Tejomaya. The platform helps create a structured and transparent process for both volunteers and hosts.
Our Approach to Volunteering
Why we host volunteer programs
We believe in creating opportunities for individuals to connect with our community, contribute to meaningful causes and to promote cultural exchange.
What we offer to our volunteers
A sense of purpose, to connect with like-minded individuals, to learn and exchange skills and a supportive environment to carry out meaningful work.
Qualities we value in our volunteers
An open-minded and collaborative spirit to work independently, along with a willingness to adapt to unexpected challenges.

How to Join Our Volunteer Program
Interested volunteers first create a profile on Volunteer Yatra and complete the platform’s verification process. Once verified, they can explore and apply to opportunities posted by hosts. Applications are then reviewed by the host, and shortlisted volunteers may be approved based on the suitability of their interests, skills, and availability.
After the application is approved, the host and volunteer coordinate to book a slot for the program. Once the schedule is confirmed, the volunteer can arrive and begin their journey with us.

FAQs about the Program
Where will volunteers stay?
Volunteers will stay in our dormitory spaces, Shivalik and Pir Panjal. The Shivalik dormitory is reserved for female volunteers, while Pir Panjal is a mixed dormitory. Please note that volunteers may occasionally share the space with other travelers staying at the homestay. Both dormitories have their own private bathrooms to ensure a comfortable stay. For more details and photos, we invite you to explore the room descriptions available on our website.
How far in advance should I apply?
Volunteers are welcome to apply at any time. However, our volunteer slots are typically open between July and August each year.
The exact dates, available roles, and opportunity description are updated on the application platform, where you can also submit your request to join the program.
Is there a fee to volunteer?
The application is made through the Volunteer Yatra platform, which includes a small annual membership fee that supports the platform’s operations and a refundable slot booking deposit that confirms the volunteer’s commitment to the opportunity.
Our volunteer program is based on mutual exchange and shared experiences. It is therefore not a paid employment position, and at the same time, it is not intended to be a free vacation without participation in the agreed activities.
How many volunteers do you accept at a time?
We usually host 1–2 volunteers at a time to keep the experience personal and meaningful. Volunteers may work together with others or independently depending on their interests and the work involved. Throughout the stay, they work closely with our hosts, allowing for a mutual exchange of skills and ideas.
Since we host only a small number of volunteers, applying does not automatically guarantee a spot. Each application is reviewed carefully to ensure the best match.
What should I bring with me?
Volunteers are encouraged to bring warm clothing, as the weather can be cool depending on the season. It is also helpful to carry trekking or non-slip shoes, an umbrella, and any personal essentials you may need during your stay.
If you are volunteering for creative or digital roles such as social media, please bring your own electronics or equipment (for example, a laptop or camera). In general, volunteers should bring any gear or tools relevant to the role they have applied for so they can make the most of their experience. For more details, do check out our other FAQ section.
What can volunteers do during their free time?
During their free time, volunteers can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the property, go for short walks or hikes in the nearby hills, read, or simply spend time in nature. Many volunteers also like to explore the local village, interact with the community, or visit nearby viewpoints and trails.
It’s also a great opportunity to unwind, reflect, and connect with fellow guests or hosts, making the stay both productive and refreshing.
